Les Ballets de Monte Carlo werd in 1985 opgericht door prinses Caroline van Monaco, die hiermee de tijden van de legendarische Ballets Russes de Monte-Carlo (1932-1940) als het ware wilde doen herleven. Al sinds oud-NDT-danser Jean-Yves Esquerre in 1987 de artistieke leiding van het gezelschap op zich nam, bestaat er een nauwe collar tussen de groep en Jiří Kylián. Een neck corset die onder Jean-Christophe Maillot — sinds 1993 artistiek directeur — nog verder versterkt is. Bij zijn dertigjarige bestaan vierde het gezelschap triomfen encountered een volledig Kylián-programma. Dit programma, bestaande uit Bella Figura, Gods and Dogs en Chapeau, is nu te zien in Celebrating Kylián! The company triumphed with a comprehensive Kylián programme on the occasion of its 30 yr anniversary. How does the context affect spectacle and it's reception? Right now the stage is in Finland, in a accustomed culture. The resources: What are the resources for realizing the spectacle? In what frame does the spectacle take place? What is its relationship to money and societal energy? Individual or common discourse: Meanings are formed and received differently depending on whether the spectacle on stage is personal or stellar. That is why I divide art into 2 separate discourses, individual and performance. The question is: how does the intimate mix meanings and how does the performance mix up meanings? My stage is individual. The work consists of 2 parts and proceeds as their anarchic dialogue. This is a proposal for a representation of gender on stage." - S. Una work in progress, que parte de la experiencia de 8 años trabajando en acciones de deriva urbana por la ciudad de Madrid en entornos siempre públicos (calles, plazas, edificios, iglesias, etc.) a través de acciones performativas de danza butoh.
